Social sustainability at Østfyns Museer.
At Østfyns Museer, we believe that culture is for everyone, and therefore it is important to offer cultural activities tailored to different target groups. Below, you can read about our various programmes.
Culture on Prescription
From 2016 to 2019, Østfyns Museer citizens with mild to moderate stress, anxiety, or depression the opportunity to participate in Culture on Prescription – a project supported by the Danish Health Authority. Participants took part in a structured 10-week group programme with cultural activities two to three times per week. At Østfyns Museer, the programme was offered at both Nyborg Castle/Borgmestergården and the Johannes Larsen Museum.
Citizens with Dementia
In 2023, Østfyns Museer took part in a project forcused on providing dementia.friendly cultural activities. The project was funded vu the Danish Social Services Agency and aimed to ensure accessible communication of culture and history at care homes and day centres. In addition to Østfyns Museer, 21 other cultural institutions participated in the project.
Subsequently, several staff members at Østfyns Museer completed a training course and were certified as dementia friends. In 2025. the museum received funding from the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces for a project on local outreach to citizens with dementia. This project is carried out in collaboration with Langelands Museum.
We offer the following programmes for citizens with dementia:
Culture for the mind: Visitors come to one of our museums and take part in a specially designed programme.
Visits to care and activity centres: An educator visits the care centre, where participants feel safe and comfortable.
Dementia-friendly Festival: Special programmes for the Danehof Medieval Festival and Christmas in the Old Royal Town.
Dementia-friendly culture at activity and care centres: Activity kits with cultural-historical objects are available at the centres, allowing volunteers to use them in everyday activities.
Dementia Week: Every year since 2018, week 19 has been marked as a special week dedicated to dementia awareness.
Visit to Tryllebjerget – H.C. Andersen Children and Youth hospital
Johannes Larsen Museum and Nyborg Castle visit the hospital and present history on a child-friendly level to hospitalized children.
Club 17 – Adults with acquired Brain Injury and Concussion
We offer talks and guided sessions tailored to specific topics on request.
Visitors with Autism at Borgmestergården
We have developed a guide to support visitors with autism and their families before and during their visit to Borgmestergården. The guide helps visitors prepare for the museum experience and what they will encounter.
Nyborg Full-Day School
Close collaboration with Nyborg Full-Day School, where educational programmes for children and young people are developed.
Space for Everyone – Programme in connection with the Fritz Syberg exhibition. The Will to Live!
For the exhibition at the Johannes Larsen Museum in 2024, funding has been granted for an educational programme for families and young people. During the programme, participants are introduced to Fritz Syberg and have the opportunity to try artistic practice themselves. The programme is aimed at families and young people who wish to get to know the museum better but may not previously have had the opportunity to do so. Recruitment takes place in collaboration with Space for Everyone and Kerteminde Municipality, and is based on experiences and studies from Culture on Prescription.
